Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or case number entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company operating that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies any result. Brooke County Court Docket does not keep its own log or copy of those search terms.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email may be retained as needed to prepare and document a response. It remains within the site team unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server operation records certain technical details when a page loads:
- The IP address assigned to your device
- Which browser you are using and its version
- Your device type and operating system
- The pages you visited and how long you stayed on each
- The site that sent you here, if any
- Timestamps for each page view
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small device files used to understand traffic patterns, such as popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers combine that activity into reports. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some site functions behave.
What We Do With This Data
- Keeping the site up, running, and loading quickly
- Sending your search requests to the right partner service
- Figuring out which pages people find useful and which need work
- Tracking down and fixing technical issues
- Showing ads that may line up with your interests
No Court-Record Data on File
Brooke County Court Docket does not host, maintain, compile, or sell a court-docket database or personal case files. It publishes general directions to the Circuit Clerk, trial courts, and West Virginia search systems that hold the records. The site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party dossiers.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies supply the site's search tools. A partner's privacy policy, retention rules, and sharing practices apply to information entered there, and those choices are beyond this site's control. Review those terms before submitting a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to clerks, courts, state search systems, legal-aid groups, or outside search providers. After leaving this site, the destination's privacy terms control. Read them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to follow activity across websites and select interest-based advertising.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal information is not sold. It may be disclosed only to limited recipients such as:
- Search partners that handle queries you run on our site
- Analytics services we use to track traffic and performance
- Ad networks that place ads on our pages
- Law enforcement or government bodies when a valid legal order requires it
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect collected data, but no internet system is completely secure. Safeguards reduce risk without guaranteeing that a breach can never occur.
Users Under 18
The service is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal data from anyone younger than 18. Notice that a minor supplied information will be addressed by deleting it.
Your Data Rights
Applicable West Virginia and federal privacy or consumer-protection law may provide further rights. The state's court-record access rules, including W.Va. Code § 51-4-2, W.Va. Code § 29B-1-3, and Trial Court Rule 15A.26, govern official records held by public custodians rather than visitor data held here. At a minimum, a visitor may:
- Ask for a copy of what we have on file about you
- Have us fix information that is wrong
- Request that we erase your data
- Opt out of certain kinds of data processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised. A replacement takes effect when posted here with an updated effective date, so visitors should review it from time to time.
